Unique Dollar Billy
In my scientific career, I have published papers; however, I have never taken a creative writing class or written fiction, much less stories for children. One fine day, I decided I wanted to reach out to children by writing humorous stories to make them laugh and teach them some of life’s important lessons. This collection of children’s short stories revolves around a one-dollar bill named Unique Dollar Billy (UDB) who lives with several families (in wallets, purses, and pockets) as he experiences what life has to offer. You will find him witnessing different aspects of life that we humans would find commonplace and ordinary. As UDB describes the circumstances around him, readers will see how unique and original these parts of life are and why we should pay attention to them for the future.
UDB spends time with four different families in this book. It is interesting to see the various ways they spend their time together and how they interact with each other. You will find UDB in school, on trips, in a traffic jam, understanding April Fool’s Day, celebrating Halloween, in the farm with Grandparents and even getting accidentally tossed in the garbage. While enjoying these experiences, UDB also learns valuable life lessons that he can impart to readers.
The character of UDB will engage children’s imagi- nations and minds as they read his stories. It will bring his experiences to life for readers as they wonder where and how a dollar bill travels in this world. My dream is to reach out to as many children as possible so we realize how each of us is as unique as UDB. Children, I hope you will have as much fun travelling with UDB as I did. Laugh out loud and enjoy my first book in the UDB series, The Adventures of Unique Dollar Billy. Happy reading!
